Thinking of 1st Lt Matthew Vandegrift today, I was honored to serve with him and his unit in BasraAs was present during his passing and the incredibly honorable transfer ceremony co-sponsored by our host British contingent and US Forces in Basra.

I had the pleasure of being Matt's Marine in the FDC and Humm-V driver for his stay with Fox 2/10. We had such a blast together; we managed to break our truck, trailer, and some rules, but that's what made him THE BEST. I attended Muster in Plano, TX tonight. My husband had the honor of answering for Matt. Our guest speaker mentioned a handful of Aggies who are blazing a path of service and leadership today. Matthew was one of the people he honored. My prayers are with you, especially on this one year anniversary.
