Angelus Funeral Home - San Antonio Obituary

Matthew Adam Vargas, beloved son, brother, nephew, cousin, went to be with our Lord and Savior on Sunday, January 4, 2015 at the age of 22, after a long two year courageous battle with cancer. Matt was born on September 14, 1992 to Michael A. and Veronica Sanchez-Vargas in San Antonio, Texas. Matt brought joy and laughter to all who got to know him, and there never was a dull moment when he was around.

Matt attended St. Margaret Mary Grade School where he was a lifelong parishioner. He graduated from St. Anthony Catholic High School where he excelled at athletics and was the Quarterback for his football team. He was in his second year of college at the University of the Incarnate Word when he was diagnosed with this illness.

He was preceded in death and now reunited with his grandparents, paternal, Martin F. Vargas, Alicia O. Maldonado, Silvestre A. Maldonado; maternal, Francisco E. Sanchez and Janie H. Sanchez. He is survived by his parents, Michael and Veronica; his brother, Michael Jr. and his baby sister Marissa; numerous uncles, aunts, cousins and his loving companions, his dogs, Marley, Blaze and Holly. You will be greatly missed Matt, but never forgotten. We Love You!!!

Funeral Services

Vistation will begin Friday, January 9, 2015 at 5:30 P.M. at St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church, 1314 Fair Ave., San Antonio, Texas 78223, with a Rosary to be recited at 7:00 P.M. The funeral procession will depart Saturday, January 10th from The Angelus Funeral Home, 1119 N. St. Mary's St., San Antonio, Texas 78215 at 10:15 A.M. to St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church for a Funeral Mass to be offered at 11:00 A.M. Interment will follow at San Jose Burial Park.

Memorial Contributions

In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to the Matthew Vargas Scholarship fund, C/O St. Anthony Catholic High School, 3200 McCullough Ave., San Antonio, Texas 78212.

Not sure what to say?

I didn´t get a lot of time with Matt. What I wouldn´t give just to see him again for one second. I can´t help but think of him all the time now that he´s gone. With that being said, all my prayers and condolences go to my Uncle Mike, Tia Vero, and cousins Mikey and Marissa

Matthew has a very special place in my heart and I think of him often as well as his beautiful family. Peace and comfort to all that love Matthew.
