Maura Gallagher Obituary
AGE: 90 • Toms River
Maura D. Gallagher, 90, of Toms River, passed away on Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2013, at the Van Dyke Hospice at Community Medical Center, Toms River. Born in County Clare Ireland, she moved to the United States in 1927 and lived in Brooklyn, NY until moving to Toms River 29 years ago. She was a communicant of St. Joseph's R.C. Church in Toms River.
Maura was predeceased by her son-in-law, John Yurko; her sister, Bridget Kennedy; and her brother, Joseph Kennedy. She is survived by her husband of 66 years, James F. Gallagher; her daughter, Maura D. Yurko of Bayonne; and her grandson, James A. Yurko of Bayonne.
Visiting hours will be from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 6 at Quinn-Hopping Funeral Home, 26 Mule Road, Toms River. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday, Jan. 7 at St. Joseph's R.C. Church, Toms River. Cremation will be private. Maura Yurko--
Our heartfelt condolonces on the loss of your mother. Our thoughts are with you as you grieve, filled with a lifetime of memories of your mom.
She sounds like my recently deceased mom, born in County Mayo and immigrated to Brooklyn. These tough but loving old Irish birds are the very definition of the term "family matriarch", as they lovingly but firmly watch over their brood. When the hurt subsides a bit, you will cherish the memories.
