It is with heavy hearts, we announce the sudden passing of beloved wife of Hugo McHugh of New Bern, NC. Maura was born in Brooklyn, NY, as the daughter of the late William (FDNY and U.S. Navy) and Anna Francis (Nuala) Stade from Ardara, Co. Donegal, Ireland. She was a loving mother to seven children: Hughie McHugh, of Newburgh, NY, Sean McHugh and his wife, Setsuko, of Red Bank, NJ, Noreen Albright and her husband Richard, of St. Augustine, FL, Brian McHugh of Lewisburg, TN, Rory McHugh of New Bern, NC, Marybeth McHugh of Somerville, MA, and Michael McHugh and his wife Meghan of Attleboro, MA as well as her late daughter in law, Lauri McHugh. Maura grew up in Floral Park, NY. She raised her young children in the parish of St. Philip Neri in the Bronx, NY, and then moved to that catskills and resided in New Windsor, NY. They also lived in Fairfax, Virginia, and on Garden Street in Hoboken, New Jersey, before finally retiring in New Bern, NC, where she lived for over 20 years. Maura is survived by her sister, Geraldine Murphy Spencer, her brothers, Barry Stade and his wife Angeline, and Brian Stade. She is the loving sister of the late William (Billy) Stade and survived by her sister in law, Regina Caroli. She will be dearly missed by her 9 Grandchildren: Bobby Backofin, Kyle Kelley, Brian Anthony McHugh, Mitose McHugh, Seamus McHugh, Kevin Albright, Maegan Albright, Danny McHugh, and Keiran McHugh. Maura attended Sacred Heart Academy near Floral Park, NY, the parish she also married Hugo McHugh over 50 years ago, she was a graduate of SUNY New Paltz, NY, a full time Mom to 7 children, always a member of a prayer group and promoted praying together and staying together (the sacrament of marriage). Maura worked as a real estate agent, then at H&R block for many years and recently got politically active serving as the President of the East Carolina Republican Women. UPDATE New Information on NY services: There is a mass and burial scheduled for August 16, 2019, at 1:00pm at Our Lady of Lourdes Church on Rt. 209 in Kerhonson, NY. A Reception of Remembrance will be held at the Four Green Fields, at Geraghty Hall, immediately following.
