Maureen R. McDowell, 66, a native and lifelong resident of Chicopee, passed away on November 9, 2018 in Yarmouth, ME where she had been convalescing from complications of a medical condition. Maureen was born on May 13,1952, a daughter of the late Wallace T. and Dorothy E. (Lahey) McDowell. She was a communicant of St. Mary’s Church in Willimansett and a member of the Altar Guild and was active in scouting, joining the Girl Scouts in second grade. She graduated from Sacred Heart Grammar School in Holyoke, Chicopee Comprehensive High School in 1970 and the University of Maine at Farmington in 1974. Maureen was an active member of Chi Delta Phi Sorority and pursued graduate studies at Springfield College. Maureen was a kindergarten and 1st grade teacher in the Early Childhood Center at the University of Maine and after receiving her degree returned to this area and taught at Westfield High School for many years. She was a talented musician playing guitar, banjo and ukulele. Maureen had a beautiful singing voice. She is survived by two brothers, Kevin G. McDowell, her twin, of Chicopee, Dr. Thomas Y. “Tym” McDowell and his wife Penny of Westfield and a sister, Wallace Anne Starke of Chicopee and several nieces and nephews. Calling hours will be held on Friday, Nov. 30, 2018 in the Corridan Funeral Home, 333 Springfield St., Chicopee from 4 to 7 p.m. The funeral will be on Saturday, Dec. 1, 2018 beginning at the funeral home at 9 followed at 10 by the Funeral Mass in Holy Name Parish Church, 94 Springfield St., Chicopee.
