Not sure what to say?

Thanks Mr. Mayor of Dinkytown
You were a respected Man about town, always friendly. We will all miss your kindness.
Rich Landry Mgr. Camera Shop Dinkytown.

I met Maurie at Sholom West around 2004. He and my dad, Sheldon Bernstein (no relation), sat together for every meal for probably two or three years. Dad knew him as a radio host and had a lot of respect for him. On weekends I would join these guys for lunch or dinner. They constantly cracked each other up. Maurie was a wonderful dining companion for my dad and a sweet man, even in his decline. I remember him fondly. His memory is a blessing to me.

Maury had an amazing knowledge of folk music and shared his knowledge with so many. I knew him through the Snoose Boulevard Festival, and appreciate his work in producing the recordings of Scandinavian immigrant music. He left many musical gifts to us!

Maury played at our wedding. When we met with him before the nuptials, I told him my family was Scandinavian and my conversion was hard for them. The first set was typical Klezmer, and then he played a set of Scandinavian folk music. My family jumped up and danced and danced! People still talk about the wedding and how fun it was, many many thanks to such a wonderful musician and man.

I have known Maury since 1976 from our days at the Extempore and his performances at the Riv and New French Cafe etc.We all remember Maury's wit, his stories and passion for ethnic music of all kinds. Was his neighbor on 7 corners when he fell ill. Helped him transition into and out of the handicapped apartment (near Swedish Institute) and into Shalom. Hello to Melody, I remember our phone conversation some 10 years ago. Maury and Anne Charlotte Harveys' albums Snoose Boulevard and Return to...

Dear Maury,
You were a unique force in my life and it has been richer for it. Your singleminded devotion to what you believed in, total disregard for "shoulds" and "conventions" and other people's limtations--you had none when it came to your passions--were chastening, aggravating, and admirable. May you enjoy well-deserved peace with your favorite folk music around you. Thank you for everything.

It was a pleasure knowing Maurie and those whom he cared so much about. He had an amazing sense of humor, intelligence, and was a kind-hearted man. May he rest in peace (with non-stop music and talk radio, of course). Blessings to both Jean and Melody, be sure to stay in touch with the Sholom family. It was a pleasure being a part of his care team. Maurie will most definitely be missed by many.

The "mayor of dinky town" in the 60's. a good friend and scholar of folk music. May you rest in peace.

Rest in Peace, Maury. I took a folk music class from you at the "Open U" back in the late 60's, and was a regular listener to your radio program. Friends with members of the "Snoose Boulevard" band which accompanied Anne-Charlotte Harvey during her time on the West Bank. Will play the recording this evening, in your honor.
