I worked with Maurice on the WUNC-TV Chapel Hill Studio crew in the early 1960s while we were both students at UNC. We were close friends. I remember that he adopted our cat when I was called to US Air Force duty in Thailand. The next time we met was in the 1980s as I was a on-the-air guest for a UNC-TV fundraiser. I asked about Maurice often as our broadcasting careers intersected through the years. He'll be missed as a friend and as a leader in the North Carolina broadcasting...

Hugh and I extend our deepest sympathy to Maurice's family. News of his death came as a shock. In our mind's eye Maurice will remain the young man we knew and worked with at WUNC-TV in the mid-1960's - early 1970's. We'll remember the fun times.
What saddens us most is that we did not realize Maurice was in Florida and me missed an opportunity to visit.

Words cannot express the deep sorrow I feel for the loss of someone so dear to my heart. Maurice touched the hearts of everyone he met and will be sadly missed by all.
