A Fan Named Moejiggy

Mauricio Gonzalez had such skill on the basketball court that he earned the name Moejiggy from other players, from Greenwich Village to Harlem to his native Washington Heights, said his wife, Evan van Dommelen-Gonzalez. "Basketball was his passion," Ms. van Dommelen-Gonzalez said. "He played on every city court and everybody knew him."

A New Yorker through and through, Mr. Gonzalez was a Knicks fan. "He was almost in tears when Patrick Ewing was traded. He was looking forward to this season to see what was going to happen with Michael Jordan's comeback. I watched opening night without him and cried," his wife said.

He was priming his 15-month-old daughter, Nina, to play for the Women's National Basketball Association, Ms. van Dommelen- Gonzalez said. "She has all the right moves."

Mr. Gonzalez was a carpenter. He was installing furniture at Aon, in 2 World Trade Center, on Sept. 11.

Not sure what to say?

Dear Mauricio...So we arrive to the 21st anniversary of your departure from us. May Our Great Lord Jesus bless your soul. I remember like today many years back when you were 4-year old living at 586 W 178th St. Manhattan. Your lovely, full of life smile. Sweet personality. Friendly and outgoing. Yes, that's what we remember about you. Blessings! Luis y Melida Lucia Ortega...

My mother always spoke highly of you. She always talked about how you two were close friends. Every year I watch the 9/11 memorial remembrance for her, because she can´t even bear to hear your name. I may have not gotten the opportunity to meet you, but from the memories my mom tells me about, it´s just as if I´ve met you. May you rest in peace, and may your family always be blessed. Noemi Santiago will forever have you in her heart, and so will I.
