The last time I spoke to Max, not all that long ago, he was heartbroken about Mignon's passing and I was heartbroken about Ofelia's (Fox), who was constantly nudging him to do more and more cardiac rehab. They were good friends that enjoyed long telephone conversations, reminiscing about Cuba and Tropicana, he from Miami or Virginia and she from California. Two magnificent Cubans that will be sorely missed forever.

I was sad to hear of Max's passing.
There have been so many calls when it was thought he was "not going to make it" that part of me thought he would outlive us all. He was always kind to me and I appreciated his interest in my children and me. I remember after he found out that I
got divorced he called to see if I was
okay and he and Mignon would call and check on me occasionally. It was so nice of him to take the time to show he cared. I wish him peace and joy. I'm sorry I...

Max E. Borges, distinguido caballero, paterfamilias, arquitecto como su padre, y notabilisimo por sus proyectos y obra. Su contribucion a la cultura de Cuba sobrevivira inclusive a sus edificios y monumentos. Mi pesame a todos sus familiares y a todos quienes lo quisimos y admiramos.

I was saddened to hear of the loss of Tio Max although I knew his health had been deteriorating. May he rest in peace!
I was always in awe of Tio Max's accomplishments in the field of architecture but never knew that he was only 34 years old when he designed Tropicana-wow!
I also know that while he was very successful in the construction business in the USA, he missed doing some of the design work he loved most.
The practice of architecture here in the USA would have not allowed him...
