Not sure what to say?

Dr. Gartman was my employer at the University University of North Alabama where I studied many years ago. He gave me the opportunity to work as an assistant at the French Language Department when I was desperately looking for a job as a foreign stududent who had no connection in a foreign country. That job helped me so much to financialy support my education. After more than 25 years I am still grateful to him. One day near the end of my time in Alabama, I thanked him for that. He looked at...

I just saw this. Max was my tennis coach at Samford U and an all around mentor. A world traveler, a paradigm of modesty Ana font of wisdom. The world was a better place with him in it.

Max was my children´s choir director at Hopewell Baptist in Tuscaloosa and was a great influence on me as a young teen. Later I had him for French at the University of Alabama; and much later went with my teenage daughter on a trip he led to Europe. I always thought the world of him!

Marcia, We just heard about Max's passing and we are so sorry! We would have loved to attend the service. Please know that we'll keep you and your family in our prayers. You and Max mean the world to us . . as you know! Our forever thanks for introducing us to each other.

I knew Max as a child at the beginning of his career. My father performed his and Marcia's wedding ceremony and my brother was the ring bearer. He was a wonderful friend to a little girl. I still love him. I am sorry for your loss but know that you have wonderful memories. Vivian Davidson Egan

As you remember your love one, as God heals your broken hearts (Psalm 147:3), may your treasured memories continue to bring you peace, comfort, and strength to endure.

Marcia,
We are praying for you and your precious family. Max was very special to us.
Love and Blessing,
Leslie and Brooks

Dear Gartman Family,

Today is Max's visitation and funeral and I am so sorry that I'm not able to be with you. As unfortunate as this is, I believe that the reason for my absence is actually a tribute to Max and his influence on my life. As I write, I am in Spain with UNA study-abroad students attempting to give them the same amazing cultural experiences that Max gave his students throughout his career. These life-changing experiences created friendships, built bridges, and...
