My heart goes out to you at this time and in the days ahead. I will miss seeing Max on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. I feel privledged to have known Max because he was such a kind sweet man.

I have so many memories of Big Max, way too many express. The Poppens were my second family. Sandy, Kim and John, I am so sorry to hear of your loss. I hope you find some comfort in your grieving and know that he is in such a beautiful place and he is joined with the others that we so dearly love and miss. I have so many great memories growing up with you guys and Sandy was my best friend. You are in my prayers, Julie Campbell

I met Max through my sister inlaw Sandy. I grew up with no father or mother. Max and Barb had adopted me me as one of their children. This was one of the most loving memories that I have ever experienced. He will be missed.

To all your family - We are thinking of you. So sorry to hear about your Dad. Hope you know we care. Darlene, Linda and Diane (Almery)

He had the same, simple kindness that was always so well expressed by his father, Henry Poppen---my wonderful grandpa. My brother and I wanted to be able to see him again, but the unforseen happened before we...

Uncle Max was my favorite uncle...My brother and I are both navy veterans like him...Max and aunt Barbara raised a beautiful family of great boys and girls and were loving parents...I recall when I was about age 4-5 Uncle Max coming home from serving in Korea...I looked up to him with pride and ask him, with child-like wonder,"Are you a grown man now?"...He just laughed and said he likely was grown now...I guess I thought I might have lost the young teenager who used to play with me when I...

Max was one of the best neighbors a person could ever ask for. If you needed anything or just need someone to talk to, Max was the person to help you out. Everyday when Max was walking to get the mail, he would always say hello and would make time to ask how I was doing. Max retired from BNSF, and as I am a current UP employee, we always found the time to talk railroad, some of the stories were good but most were not, but at the end of our conversation we just looked back and laughed about...
