Paul Funeral Home of Washington Obituary

     Mr. Maxcy Wayland Meekins, age 81, a resident of Washington, NC died Monday January 5, 2026, at his home with family by his side.


     A graveside funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday January 7, 2026, at Pamlico Memorial Gardens and will be officiated by Kent Gurganus.


     The family will receive friends at the home located at 7416 Broad Creek Road, Washington.


     Mr. Meekins was born in Beaufort County on May 16, 1944, son of the late Joseph Brownie Meekins and the late Donnie Del Woolard Meekins.  He was a 1962 graduate of Bath High School.  On October 30, 1966, he married the former Nancy Gurganus who survives.  He worked for many years as an auto parts salesman and also delivered parts with Piston Ring and Machine Company in Washington.  Later he worked with the City of Washington until his retirement.  After his retirement he worked with Sawyer’s Auto Parts of Washington.  Mr. Meekins was a simple man who believed in hard work, and he was constantly piddling on something to fix for himself or friends.  


     Surviving along with his wife Nancy of the home is a son: David (Paula) Meekins of Washington; grandchildren: Colby Meekins (Darien) of Washington, and Kelsey Respess (Matt) of Pinetown; and great grandchildren: Tyler Respess and Easton Respess.  Mr. Meekins was preceded in death, along with his parents, by all of his brothers: Jim Meekins, Brownie Meekins, and Leary Meekins; and all of his sisters: Del Jean Woolard and Alice Cherry.


     In lieu of flowers the family kindly asks that memorial contributions be made to Bunyan Volunteer Fire Department, 8264 Broad Creek Road, Washington, NC 27889.
