Not sure what to say?

To add to our stories in memory of such a grand lady is special. I read several remembrances and found Michelle’s comment on Mrs. Crites telling us to always carry a book. Well, perhaps she’s why I always carry one. I’ve had to go back to stores, restaurants and reach out to vacation spots to retrieve them at various times, but I’ve always got one.

I had Mrs. Crites for social studies at Franklin High school, very few teachers do I remember at this stage in my life but Mrs. Crites impact on my life was such that I will never forget her, her grace in the midst of chaos, her ability to calm a classroom of 35 teenagers with raging hormones with just a quiet but determined look and most of all her ability to convey to her students the excitement and zeal she obviously had for the subject matter. There will always be a place in both my heart...

I loved Maxine! I had the honor of working with her for almost all of her 19 years as a volunteer on the Citizen Review Board in Multnomah County. Maxine was a true leader, compassionate, tireless, loving, amazing! When she met my own mom, she dragged her too in to Maxine's whirwind volunteer life: visiting juvenile courts with groups of young people, going on Reed outings, and just all around living in this world. I will miss Maxine terribly and am sorry I did not learn of her loss...

Maxine was one of my teschers at Franklin High School I have never forgotten. She touched my heart and made me think beyond my self.Jesus has a gem in heaven. Paul A. Cloutier Hillsboro Oregon

How very much I adored Maxine- although I was only her tax consultant I would always schedule extra time because we would talk for at least an hour before we got down to business. She was a very gracious and independent woman. The first year I went out on my own she followed me. There are a lot of stairs at my house (where my home office is)and when she came carrying her box- I walked down to take the box from her, she said "I may be old but I am capable of carrying and walking at the same...

Michele DeShaw expressed my sentiments exactly. We all have teachers who make a impact in our lives and stay in our heart forever. Mrs. Crites was that teacher.

Maxine Crites and her student teacher, 29 Apr 1976

Maxine Crites was far more than my social studies teacher in 12th grade. Maxine was my best role model, the smartest teacher at Franklin and the smartest woman I'd ever met. Maxine was my shero. Her advice to our class, as she held up a paperback, "Always carrry a book with you as you never know when you will have a few minutes to spare when you could read." She inspired me to attend Oberlin College. Later she trusted me with her classroom and her students when I did my student...

Thinking about you Melissa. It is clear how much your mother gave you. I know you miss her terribly. Wishing you peace in the days a head.
