After a long and fruitful life, Maxine Dennis, died peacefully on June 2, 2009, at the age of 94, at the Mitchell Village Care Center.

Maxine worked at Beno's Department Store in Council Bluffs for many years. When Maxine was in her fifties, she took training to become a nurse's aide and worked for St. Bernard's Hospital in Council Bluffs until her retirement. Maxine was a native of Council Bluffs and moved to Des Moines to live with her daughter in 2006. She moved to Mitchell Village Care Center in February 2009.

Maxine was preceded in death by her husband, David Dennis; her sons, Davey Lee and Gary; her parents, Arthur and Anna Gerard; sister, Grace Olson; and longtime companion, Dick Nickel.

She will be missed by her daughter, Jo Chafen; daughter-in-law, Sharon Dennis; grandchildren, Mike Dennis and Ron Dennis, of Council Bluffs, Patti Dennis, of Texas, Roger Dennis, of Lincoln, Neb., Elizabeth (Becky) Hunt, Jackie Phalen and Danielle Bunda, of Des Moines, Kyle Edmonds, of Ames and Beth Tetfer, of Florida; 18 great grandchildren; and five great great grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m., Thursday, June 4 with a 7 p.m., Rosary at Brooks Funeral Care - Tonini Chapel. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, June 5, 2009, at the funeral home.
