WALTER (DIVELY), Maxine A. – Of Indian River, formerly of Flint, age 90, passed away Monday, December 31, 2018.



 



Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, January 5, 2019 at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road.



 



Private burial will take place at Crestwood Cemetery.



 



In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Topinabee Community Church Memorial Fund or Animal Rescue of your choice.



 



Visitation 1 p.m. Saturday until the time of the service at the funeral home.



 



Maxine was born in Blair County, Pennsylvania on July 27, 1928. She graduated from Flint Central High School in 1946.



 



Maxine married Robert R. Walter on September 23, 1950; he preceded her in death on May 5, 2014.



 



On retirement from Sears, they moved to Indian River, where they had many years enjoying their home on Burt Lake and the friends they made at Topinabee Community Church.



 



Maxine spent time volunteering for her church and local library.



 



She enjoyed singing in the choir, filling her yard with flowers, reading any book that found its way into her home and spending time with her family and friends.



 



Maxine was a traveler, whether it be a cruise to Alaska, the sunny beaches of Hawaii, or her most recent trip a few years ago to the Netherlands (where she was fondly labelled “grandma” by her tour group).



 



Maxine is survived by two daughters, Anita (Phillip) Murphy of Baraga and Cathy (Dan) Champney of Grand Blanc;



 



five grandchildren, James (Joan) Murphy, Tara Murphy, Aaron (Jennifer) Champney, Dr. Allison (Adam) Schnepp, Anna Champney and husband Blaine Schlosser;



 



six great-grandchildren, Sean, Baylee, Maya, Liam, Octavia and Sawyer.



 



Also surviving are two sisters, Marian McTaggart and June (James) Mansfield; many nieces and nephews.



 



She was preceded in death by her parents, Emory and Rozella Dively; her son, Robert S. Walter; and her brother, Emory M. Dively.
