Not sure what to say?

My uncle Maynard is a one of a kind uncle. He's been there for me so many times. When I was being picked on by two boys, he told them to leave me alone and they did. When I was in a car accident in Mississippi in 1993, he flew down the very next morning. He's been like an angel to me and my family. I've never met anyone as kind, caring, generous, loving, and compassionate as he was. I'm quite sure I'll never meet anyone as sweet and kind as Uncle Maynard. I'll never forget everything that...

Maynard was my Uncle. I remember when he first took me duck hunting in the Bayport area. We started before dawn’s light and walked all day. It was not a successful hunt but we had a pleasant day. On the way back to the car, he got lost. We tramped around a long time in the dark. I was tired and was getting very angry with him but I did not complain. He was impressed with that. Eventually he found a landmark that directed us back to our starting point so ending a long day. This inauspicious...

Maynard was my uncle and will be sorely missed by me and my immediate family as well as his own.
After browsing the guestbook entries I must concur his passion for life and helping others and his concern for their safety was well beyond reproach. Maynard was also a hero to me as well when it came to being there for my family when it was somehow out of my reach to do my own bidding as a father. It was clearly a great blessing having him for an uncle. May his generous soul rest in...

I will miss Maynard very much. He was the ultimate outdoorsman with a great sense of humor and is part of many memories I have from Tawas. His personality was very much in evidence in his recipe for roast duck that was published in the first Tawas cookbook in which he directs as the first step: "shoot 4 canvasbacks shortly after dawn."

We are saddened to learn of Butch's
passing. May his soul rest in peace with all the saints and the souls of the faithful departed.

My uncle Maynard is my hero.
He used to take me hiking everywhere. We would walk miles along many different trails in Leelanau county which he seemed to know so well. We hiked to pyriamid point once and through the Empire bluffs several times, we even hiked trails in Ann Arbor. Maynard was there for me when no one else was. We spent so much time together that I knew all of his favorite things.
Favorite music- Gloria Estafen
Favorite meal- Breakfast (oatmeal, a glass of...

I knew Maynard through my working at A. G. Edwards & Sons, Inc. with Henry Smith. Maynard was always so friendly and sincere. He will be sadly missed.

During a New Year's eve celebration, Maynard would be asked if he would like a drink, and answer the astonished and unprepared host "Gee thanks, could I have a glass of milk?" Yet for all his innocent and do-gooder world view, he was never predictable. He always did something that made you stop in your tracks and wonder "What makes this guy tick?"

His car was famous. His back seat was floor-to-ceiling with fishing, hunting, skiing equipment, tools, for all seasons, all...
