I loved his music

I met Mel McDaniel and his wife Peggy in Nashville at the Grand Ole Opry in 2006. Both of them were great, down to earth people. I miss them.

Mel and I dated in high school and I got to sit at the girlfriend´s table at the gigs they played. He was more like the blonde Elvis at the time but found his country niche soon. The next time I saw him after his career took off was at Mel McDaniel Day in Okmulgee Ok. We hung out after and got a tour of his new tour bus. My deepest condolences

I apologize for my lateness. I was watching Mel on one of Mr. Black's shows and thought I should add something. Mel had a seriously rocky road to travel on his way to the "Opry." I met Mel back in 1991 at a truck stop where I ran smack-dab into him in the c-store. We both apologized at the same time & I knew he was famous & he says "I´m Mel McDaniel, nice to meet´cha" He let me take pictures of my truck beside his "Stand on It!" Tour bus. Super nice guy, I´m going to go listen to some of his stuff right now.

Remember you fondly from The Kings X in Anchorage, Alaska. My friends and I enjoyed many evenings listening to both you & Lucky Long there. I still have your albums. You will long be remembered. "Roll your Own", Mel.
