Melanee was the older sister of my dear friend, Lorraine. She could be found at their home on South Main Street in Wayland, usually in the kitchen making cookies or a cake or any wonderful meal she and her dear mother could conjure up. And I was fortunate enough to be invited to their feasts because I was always considered a guest, but moreso Lorraine's sidekick! Melanie was gracious, kind, had a great sense of humor, and always the perfect hostess like their mother.

I have known Melanee all my life as her sister, Lorraine and I were best friends. Melanee was the consummate hostess, always have something from the oven ready when guests arrived. She had a great sense of humor, usually ending the story with laughing at herself! I know she will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her including my family. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the DeWeerd and Kahler family in their loss of one very dear woman.

So sorry to hear of Melanee's passing. Melanee taught her business classes directly across from my classroom. We would stand outside our classroom doors and talk as students were changing classes. We'll also miss seeing her at Hope Basketball games. She was a great gal. We'll be thinking of all of you.
