I just saw an alumni´s memorial and read that Melanie was gone. I remember her smiling and sweet personality, she was a senior while I was a sophomore. We stood next to each other in Choir and we had so much fun my first year at NSHS. You were such a giving and encouraging person and I will always treasure our friendship. God bless you

It's been many years since high school, yet the best memories persist. Melanie is one of those memories. She was a special soul and had a positive impact on those around her. I know she will be remembered by her family, friends, and even some strangers that crossed her path.

Melanie Hill was one of the bright lights at NSHS, and she always had a smile on her face, and a kind word. I left Oregon, shortly after graduation to join the USN and never had the opportunity to get back "home". I will always remember her joyful outlook, and am so glad to hear that she continued to have such a wonderful impact on others. She blessed my life is so many ways.

I first met Melanie in the 3rd grade. She and I were usually the shortest or next to the shortest all through grade school. We both shot up in height, fortunately! We were the last in the spelling bee line in third grade many times! I will always remember her smile and gentle demeanor. We saw eye to eye on many things! I´m finding it very to come to terms with her passing. I feel for her family. She was a true gem of a person.

What a wonderful picture of Melanie ! It really captures her love for others and her BIG heart. The last time that I saw Melanie was at Billijean's "celebration of life" which was on December 1st, 2019. On that day,Melanie was surrounded by her many friends and family, and all were proud of her devotion and care to her Mother. Both of these lovely women were P.E.O. members of Chapter AB in Salem. I have some funny memories of Melanie leading our mistletoe fundraisers, and also seeing them both laughing together at our monthly meetings. For awhile they had season tickets right behind me, at the Pentacle Theatre. I always looked forward to seeing Melanie and Billijean-What a team !

Melanie- one of my most favorite people. She was joyful, fun and giving . A wonderful woman- she is missed. Her love for her sons and family was inspiring.
I was introduced to her in Symphony and enjoyed her mother also, BilliJean. She became a friend and we talked of going on a trip together, thought there would still be time, it would have been so much fun with her. Melanie ,we miss and admire you gal.

So many times over the years( since 1972) I have thought fondly of Melanie and her siblings and had always planned to return to the old Waldo house on Howell Prairie Rd. for a memory visit. During the past year I had connected with Melanie on social media and it was wonderful to see the life she had made for herself and those she loved. I reflect now on those warm afternoons when we would load up the horses in the big horse van and head out to a 4H horse show!! Of all the Hill kids, I remember Mel as "the lively one", so full of laughter and the best prankster! I'm so saddened by her passing. I know her friends and family are feeling the pain of losing her! We always feel we have more time...I so wish I had made the trip back to the old house and met her there to share stories of those young years! Rest gently, Mel...Linda

Dear Nic and Alex, and the rest of Melanie's family: It was such a shock to learn of Melanie's passing. I knew her through the DAR, and though we weren't close I certainly appreciated her service to the chapter, and especially her efforts to ensure that Billijean made it to as many meetings as possible in her last years. My sincere sympathies to all of you.
