Melinda Sue Meade

I was saddened to learn of the passing of Professor Meade. I was fortunate to be a student of hers at UCLA, where she opened the eyes of us undergraduates to the ecology of disease globally. Her wise insights as to how people can cause medical issues if they do not understand the indirect impacts of their activities has stuck with me for decades. I knew Melinda in Hicksville High School. She was much admired for her intellect and her down to earth attitude. II corresponded with her briefly after she left Chapel Hill. I will miss her.

Melinda was a dear, kind soul who befriended my mother-in-law many years ago. They shared a love of drives through the country to Jordan Lake, Sunday walks with her dogs around the fields of Fearrington and chats over cups of tea. She was a fascinating woman, we enjoyed our thoughtful conversations with her and the stories of her travels. She will be missed.

We are sorry to learn of the passing of Melinda, but grateful for her service to our nation as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Thailand.
