Not sure what to say?

Dear Family, dear Laura, it is with great sadness, that I had to take notice of the untimely loss of Melissa Walker. Many years ago, I had the pleasure to meet her during a visit with Laura at their home in Atlanta. I remeber vividly the positve energy of Ms. Walker. We talked about books and life. Well books have been such a big part of her life. To this day, I ave one book she gave me back then. The Edge of the Sea... I will keep the book and the good memories. All my best wishes to her...

I only interacted with Melissa a few times in my childhood, visiting my friend Laura, her daughter. but I can see her clearly in my mind, the energy and enthusiasm that suffused her face, her gait and how she moved. it was helpful for me to be around an intelligent bright joyful energetic smart woman. She seemed clearly at the helm of her own ship, pleased about her life and steering well. I'm sure there were struggles. But what I saw was inspiring to me as a young girl and something I never...

Mom I still miss you so, and sometimes it feels like it was just yesterday that you passed away. I will always extend this webpage for all the many people who loved you so that they may write about their experiences with you as you so generously shared your friendship, encouragement, vitality, passion, love and strength with so many people. What I learned most from you is to boldly and bravely follow my heart and express my true self without regard to convention. It's great to join the party,...

Melissa Walker influenced me greatly. As a mentor and professor she shared wisdom, sparked my mind with information and ideas that I may never have encountered otherwise, and gave me support even beyond the classroom, years later. Just a few days ago she entered my thoughts again and I decided this time I would write her a letter, thanking her for all she has done for me. But when I tried to find her... I found out the tragic news of her death. Its heartbreaking not to be able to reach out to...

I used Melissa's Reading the Environment in my very first classes and am very saddened to hear of her death. She made such an important contribution to the fields of English and environmental studies. My condolences to her family.

To The Walker Family:

My prayers are with you during this time. Being under the tutelage of Dr. Walker as a student at Mercer University prompted me to become an English Teacher upon graduation. She was such an inspiration as she introduced me to the world of Literature and Women Writers. I am so blessed to have been in her presence.

May the God of all comfort, comfort you during this time of your bereavement.

Dr. Jerome Walker and Family: My prayers and thoughts are with you all during the home going of such a beautiful woman (Melissa). She will be truly missed. Her spirit will always be with us. I have her in my heart . Vera Harper, Atlanta Back Clinic, Tucker, GA 30084
