BOND, Melvin ClarkMelvin Clark Bond, 92, beloved husband, father, uncle, grandfather and great- grandfather, peacefully passed away following hip surgery to his eternal rest on December 31, 2009, in Albuquerque, N.M. He was born to Charles A. and Elma M. Bond on July 14, 1917, in Cunningham, Kansas.During World War II, he was a member of the Kansas National Guard. After 20 years, he retired from the Hutchinson KS Fire Department as the Chief Fire Inspector. Following that, he drove an 18-wheeler truck for 10 years for the Dillons grocery stores in Kansas. He and his wife Mildred then retired to Mesa, AZ. There they were devout members of the Velda Rose United Methodist Church. Melvin was a life-long member of the Masons and was a 32nd degree Free Mason. From golf and bird watching to hunting and fishing, Mel was an active outdoors man who volunteered in Boy Scouts for many years.He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 56 years, Mildred Sarah Rogers Bond. Melvin is survived by his son Jimmy C. Bond, DDS, and wife Mabel, Paso Robles, CA; daughter Beverly J. Quinlan and husband Gerry, Albuquerque, NM; grandchildren Allison Bond, Jennifer and husband King Tomlinson, Capt. Chris and wife Kendrea Quinlan, Craig Quinlan, DVM; great-grandchildren Thomas, Jessamy and Sarah Tomlinson as well as Saidi and Donovan Quinlan; several nieces and nephews. Ruby Davison, a caring and loving companion for twelve years, preceded him in death.In accordance with his wishes, he was cremated and will have a memorial service at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 6, at the Velda Rose Church in Mesa, AZ. He will be interred beside his wife in the church's Memorial Rose Garden/Columbarium. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to favorite charities. Sign the Guest Book ateastvalleytribune.com

Beverly and Jim,

Your dad was a very special person and will be missed by all who knew him. Mel, had a way of making a complete stranger feel at home around him shortly after meeting. I will always remember your dad for his love, and caring ways he showed to my mom. It made her life so much fuller to have shared it with him. Mel, was like a second dad to John and I as well as grandpa and great-grandpa to our family. We all loved him and miss him as you do.
