Melvin Burks

Melvin Burks was born on November 29, 1951. He was the proud son of Martha Burka and George Jones of Memphis, TN. At the age of 29, Melvin moved to Milwaukee, WI to join his sister Sandra Burks and her fiance Freddie Johnson. He received his formal education in Chicago, IL and Milwaukee Area Technical College. In his earlier years he was employed at ACE Code Aluminum Die Casting Company for seven years. In his leisure, he enjoyed watching Discovery Channel and reading biography stories. Melvin was a devoted father, grandfather, brother and uncle. Melvin Burks departed this life on February 17, 2012. He was preceded in death by his parents, Martha Burks and George Jones, his great-nephew Devon Gathings and great-niece Tamira Giles. He leaves to cherish his memory his precious daughter Tawana Smith, his sisters Barbara Whitelow, Sandra Burks, Gail Burks, and two brothers, Tony Burks and Leoard Jones. Nine nieces: Veronica Burks, Charlotte Burks, Vicky Whitelow, Venus Whitelow, Vennise Whitelow, Viva Whitelow, RaySheinna Burks, Hanna Beene, Sonia Burks. Five nephews: Fontaine Burks, Saydric Johnson, LaShawn Johnson, Marcel Burks, Fredrick Burks. Grandchildren: Tawana Smith, Kateya Williiams, Gerron Williams, Katamma Williams, and a host of great nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.
