Dear Claverie Family,

You have my deepest condolences. I'm so sorry to hear that Mel has departed this life. I only found out today, through a mutual friend, Marcia Hughes, that Mel passed away. We were talking about him, wondering how he was, and Marcia promised to give me his number.

I've known Mel for decades. He was always a warm, kindred spirit...always a smile. He was a true gentleman, laid back, cool, down-to-earth but also a consummate professional.

Melvin was a wonderful person and a true friend. As a transplant in New Orleans he was one of the few people that made me feel at home here.
