I was always amazed at his calm demeanor, teaching his Residents and yes, calling them “Son”, during his teachings!
I remember him saying this...

“If you want to be happy for a day,? Take a nap.
If you want to be happy for a week? Go on vacation.
If you want to be happy for a month? Get married.
If you want to be happy for the rest of your life? Love your work!”

I swam competitively with Dr. Spira's daughter Mary Ann. Dr. Spira was always nice to me and please accept my deepest condolences for his passing.

This Doctor put my face back together after a auto accident back in the mid 60's and during surgery I repaid him by throwing up in his face! I believe he forgave me for that and I have never forgot what he did for me that very early morning. He told my family that he didn't have many patients like the state I was in because most were killed out right in the type of accident I had or paralyzed due to a broken neck! RIP Doc!

Condolences and prayers for the family of Dr. Melvin Spira. He was a very dedicated plastic surgeon who we had the pleasure of experiencing his caring first hand. Dr Spira was my daughter's surgeon for about 13-14 yrs, from the time she was born with an unilateral cleft lip and palate all the way through the lip, palate repairs and bone graft. He was so compassionate and made sure his work was perfect. He dedicated his skills also to those in other countries through the Surgicorps...
