Not sure what to say?

I met Col. Garten with my father, Maj. Gen. Hank Schweiter, when the former was at Walter Reed recovering from his wounds in Viet Nam. Although my exposure to him was brief, I remember that he was more interested in my dad and me than himself. My father held him in the highest regard, and Col. Garten was a true hero. My belated sympathies to his family

Sincere condolences from the (Harold) Garten side of the family. We are all thinking of you and sending our thoughts and prayers. Emailing with Melvin over the past few years has been a joy to our hearts. His memory is a blessing we cherish.

Where would we American's be without our heros! God Bless them all! Rest in peace Colonel Melvin Garten, condolences to all of your family! Jane Hulslander Goff

SO SORRY FOR YOUR LOSS JEFFERY & INA GARTEN,MAY GOD BE WITH YOU & FAMILY!!!

I was one of the internees you helped liberate from the camp in Los Baños. You and other brave soldiers saved our lives. I will be forever grateful. Rest in peace. Peter Casanave Levy.

Thank you for your service, sir, and in particular, for participating in the liberation of my family at Los Banos, who were interned there until 1945. May you rest in peace. We are forever indebted to you and your comrades.
Gratefully yours,
Ma. Paz Casanave O'Leary

As you celebrate a life well lived, may prayers and cherished memories of Melvin comfort you at this difficult time

I wish to thank you for saving my life, and the life of my family. I was one of the babies at Los Banos, in the Philippines. I wish I could have thanked you personally, but this will have to do. If there is a heaven, then you are probably being shown around by my parents, grandparents and the rest of the Casanave clan up there. You rescued a lot of us. PS, my wife, Naomi, is currently working for your alma mater, City College.

May your memory eternally be for a blessing! Sincerely, Barbara & Henry Miller
