Not sure what to say?

As Connecticut is facing the 1st biggest snow storm of the 2016 season, I am sitting here thinking of you, Dr. Mel, with your big smile and your deep rooted knowledge on what to expect with Mother Nature. You are missed this day and everyday.... RIP Dr. Mel.

I took a meteorology course with Mel. He was one of the most dedicated teachers I have ever known. He was always kind, helpful, and always explained things to his students that they were struggling with! He left a great legacy for education!!!!!

I just learned about Mel's passing, and about his long, wonderful career. We were high school classmates in Swampscott, MA, and as our 50th reunion is this year, the posting of Mel's passing gave me a deep sadness. He was such a wonderful guy, and my memories of our years together were joyful. Although I did not have contact with him after Penn State, I have just now been catching up with his life and times. My best wishes to his family, and we'll be raising a toast to Mel at our reunion, for...

Being a survivor I was honored to meet Dr. Mel in Norwich one cold October day at Backus hospital's Cancer survivors day. I was happy he said "Survivors can do what they want." He was cold so he took the afghan I made for him to keep warm. He made me feel great. My sincere sympathy to Mrs. Goldstein.

Your passion for the weather and also, for inspiring and helping people, plus your warm, loving, radiant smile, will continue to provide inspiration for so many who remember and love you. You did not allow disease to stop you from enjoying each day, exploring your great interest in the weather, playing the piano, and cheering us all with your warm, radiant smile. I know you'll be forecasting weather in heaven--high above the clouds.

I have just returned from vacation and I am saddened to hear of Dr. Mel's passing. About 5 years ago, my dad was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma and, looking for answers to questions we had regarding this disease, we turned to Dr. Mel. He very generously called my mom and dad and talked with them for a while. For this, my family will be eternally grateful. May God Bless you Dr. Mel and my heartfelt sympathy to your family. God Speed.

I returned to CT from FL in 1998 for 5 years. Dr. Mel was such an inspiration to myself and so many others. He was a one of a kind, oh so special personality..larger than life, and oh so brave. I since returned to FL and read about his passing just yesterday. Dr. Mel, you were such a wonderful, remarkable, brave, full of life, inspirational man. You will be missed by so many that you touched. My sympathies to his family, friends, and former co-workers. I'll be seeing ya, Mel
