Melvin F. Himes, 92, of Reynoldsville, died Saturday, Nov. 28, 2015, at Punxsutawney Area Hospital.

He was born Oct. 10, 1923, in Dayton, Pa., a son of the late Arminta M. (Engle) and Eincle E. Himes.

On Oct. 24, 1947, he married V. Maxene (Rhodes) Himes, who survives.

He served in the U.S. Army as a pilot during World War II.

Melvin was a member of the Zion Presbyterian Church.

He was the plant manager for Lombard, which later became ACME Machine and Welding, and retired from working there after 43 years.

He was a very bright and well-informed man with a remarkable sense of humor. He enjoyed carpentry, mechanic work, hunting ring necks with his bird dog, fishing, traveling and his animals. He also served as secretary on the school board.

In addition to his wife, surviving relatives include three children, daughter Kathy H. Null and husband Eric of Staunton, Virginia, daughter Dineen D. Chappell and husband Raymond of Knox Dale and son Gerald R. Himes and wife Colleen Shannon of Grampian; three grandchildren, D. Todd Rizzo, Chad A. Rizzo and Renee T. Fletcher and husband Jason; two brothers, Andrew G. Himes and wife Mary Ann and Robert D. Himes and wife Grace; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by six siblings, Ida Beatty, Ruth Troupe, Earl Himes, Roy Himes, Merle Himes and Ellis Himes.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday, Nov. 30, 2015, at the Deeley Funeral Home, Punxsutawney.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 1, 2015, at the funeral home, with the Rev. Steven Hendrickson officiating.

Interment will be in Zion Presbyterian Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Punxsutawney Area Cancer Care Fund, Office of Public Relations, 81 Hillcrest Dr., Punxsutawney, PA 15767.
