Schrader Funeral Home and Crematory - Ballwin Obituary

Melvin Herbert Klearman, passed away, Saturday, August 16, 2025.

He is survived by his daughter Barb Klearman of Tucson, AZ and son, Paul (Marilyn) Klearman.  Grandfather of Sarah and Aaron.  Dear brother-in-law, uncle, cousin and friend of many.  He is preceded in death by his loving wife of 62 years, Eleanor Klearman (nee Ertl).

Melvin was a genuine and humble person who loved life and found joy in every situation.  To many, he was known as "Mellow Mel".  He found much fulfillment in life in his relationships with family, friends and just about anyone he encountered.  Eleanor was his world and they were inseparable. They traveled all over the world together as well as with friends.  After Eleanor's passing, he continued to travel with Circle of Friends and he especially enjoyed going to Jupiter, FL to watch the Cardinals play during spring training.  Melvin loved sports and also loved to bowl.  He bowled on several leagues throughout the years and was proud to have bowled a perfect score.

During most of his working life, Melvin worked as a salesman in the clothing retail industry.  After retirement he worked for over 20 years for Schnucks where he developed many loyal customers who loved to stop in and talk with him.

Melvin was a World War II veteran and served a brief time in the United States Army.  He was fortunate to be invited to make the Honor Flight to Washington D.C. in March of 2023, accompanied by his daughter, Barb.

His memory will continue to live in the hearts and minds of those who knew and loved him.  He will be deeply missed.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Greater St. Louis Honor Flight in memory of Melvin.  Please share memories of Melvin and condolences with the family in the online guestbook at www.Schrader.com

Not sure what to say?

So sorry to hear about Mel passing. He was a sweet, kind man. We got together for lunch at least once a year around the holidays to catch up on the many years we were neighbors on Lakewood Dr. He had a big following of customers at Schnucks. When I would stop by Schnucks to visit him, it seemed everyone knew him. He will be missed.

Such a wonderful neighbor and friend

Such a wonderful man throughout his entire life. He will be deeply missed. With deep sympathy and love, Susie and Mike Moody

I am deeply saddened by the passing of Mel Klearman, a kind and generous man who touched the lives of many. His warmth, wisdom, and steady presence will be greatly missed. My thoughts are with Barb during this difficult time.
