Dear Family
I was so sorry to hear of Mel's passing. I graduatead in 1962 and had Mr Light for Spanish. He was one of my favorite teachers. Dear Mrs. Light and family,
We were sad to read of Mel's passing and

Now I wish we had chatted more often. .Mel was a help to me in my formative years as a teacher even though he did not know it....

I will always remember Mel's capacity to be amazed by beauty and outraged by meaness, unfairness, and injustice. I remember Mike Shoemaker once saying how impressed he was that Mel never became enured to or jaded by people who behaved...

Kind words can be short and easy to speak, but their echoes are truly endless. Mel had many kind words as an educator and friend.
