Linkous family:
My husband's grandfather was Glen Howell, who was a member of the "Dixie Playboys" as well as another country and western group, and also did several shows at WSLS and on radio with Mel. I remember Glen telling us so many stories before he died about Mel and his accomplishments, and how good of friends they were. You all will be in our prayers.

Mel took pity on a fellow English major and gave me my first real job after college. With his help and support, I eventually became a Producer/Director at WSLS. Mel was a source of blessing in my life and a fine Christian gentleman whom I count it a privilege to have known.

Bob, Thank God for your Dad. He helped me in many ways. Lets get the 8mm projector out and watch "The Creature of the Black Lagoon" on your bedroom wall one more time.

I was a Producer/Director at WSLS in the mid 70's. Mel was my "BOSS". He always help & supported me in my daily dutes. Mel was a true BROADCASTER in every sence of the word. He loved to talk about the "good old days" but had no problem with new broadcast technolpgy. I always made it a point to get in touch with Mel when I got in town. Mel you are missed.
