Age 63, passed away Friday, June 29, 2012 at McLaren-Flint. Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, July 6, 2012 at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road, Pastor Brad Lake officiating. Burial in Great Lakes National Cemetery with a military graveside service under the auspices of VFW Post #822 Honor Guard. Those desiring may make contributions to the family or charity of one's choice. Visitation 2-8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Melvin (John) was born on March 9, 1949, son of John and Helen Oliver. He attended Grand Blanc Schools and proudly served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. Melvin was employed by Chevrolet Manufacturing. He loved playing cards and family gatherings. Surviving are children, Carrie Hensley of Flint Township, Christine Wilson of Flint Township, Candi Strickler of Genesee and John Oliver of Flint Township. Our father's memory will live in our hearts forever. Also surviving are sisters, Stella Thompson of Cadillac, Michigan and Jackie May of San Angelo, Texas; 16 grandchildren and
3 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by parents; sisters, Pam and Lynda Jo; brother, Gary; granddaughter, Angel; grandparents; niece, Doreen and nephew, Jerry. Special thanks to the ICU unit at McLaren. Your condolences may be shared with the family at swartzfuneralhomeinc.com
