Not sure what to say?

I am so sorry for the Peters' family loss of Mel. I had the privilege of knowing and working with Mel in the '70s and 80's in his Continental Plants and Portland Bolt activities, while I was with Portland Machinery and the Atlas Companies. He was one of the few people I have even known who when he walked into a room, everyone gravitated to him. He was so dynamic, effervescent and full of fresh and exciting ideas. No one wanted to miss a moment of it, or miss the chance to be with him as...

little Mel, age 5

Mel Peters was the first (or, one of the first) enlightened employers who gave shares in his business to his employees, in addition to liberal leave, and retirement benefits. He mentored many, some from 'the ground up'. His work ethic and joy in his work were infectious and influential. For political and philanthropic groups, he not only 'gave', but rolled up his sleeves. Few would be likely to know he was the youngest of nine children, a first generation American who developed a fascination...

I knew Mel for the past 15 years. I will always remember him for his honesty, decency, forthrightness, and shrewd business sense. He was a unique individual and I will miss him.

There are people who completely change the course of ones life. Mel was one of those people. I learned a lot from Mel about people and about business. I display a photo of Mel and I shaking hands taken in his California home after purchasing Portland Bolt. God used Mel to impact many lives and I can say with certainty that mine is one of them. Thank you Mel for your faith and trust in me. Thank you for the many lessons you taught me. I will never forget them and certainly never forget you....

I was Mr. Peters' secretary from 1980 to 1984 in Portland, OR. Never a dull moment!!! He made me realize I could "take a letter" and have it in the "FedEx Overnight" box....which was a block away....within 15 minutes (and, of course, he was dictating the letter from an airplane...pretty high-tech for those days). I have many fond memories from my days at Continental Plants. I have been working for Portland Bolt, one of his many past business ventures, for the last two decades. My...

I am truly saddened to read of Mel's passing. I haven't seen him for over 40 years, but he was an indelible factor in my life and I have so often recalled his words of wisdom and his savvy regarding llife and success. I was a Manager at IVM in the late sixties when he came aboard. His thoughts and actions regarding people were the most astute I have ever known. He helped me in so many ways, and his counsel I have treasured through the years.
My condolences to his family. He cannot be...

G-d bless and keep the Peters in this sad time. And especially to my Adam, who I know loved Mel so very much.

My thoughts are with you all,
Ann Greenberg

With warmest memories of the years I worked with Mel managing his Southern California real estate portfolio. He was a genuinely nice man and will be missed. My thoughts and prayers are with his family for their loss.
