Hawthorne Funeral Home - Mount Vernon Obituary

Melvin Jordan Sheridan went to be with his Lord and Savior on April 15th, 2011 at the age of 81. He was at home with his best friend and loving wife of 64 years, Ruby Ila Sheridan.

Mel was a man of God with strong family values; family was his number one priority. His family, all 42+ of us, cherished the time we had with him. All that knew Mel will forever remember his professionalism in life as well as his good spirit towards life. He was our go to guy and will be deeply missed.

Mel and Ruby were the proprietors of Lucky 7 Dude Ranch where they have resided on County Line Road for the past 52 years. Horses were a love for Mel, from training horses, racing horses and riding with all their children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Mel and Ruby traveled many places in their motor home with their horses and family. One of our favorite family traditions in the motor home is Birch Bay, one of their uncanny ways of bringing us all together, where we have the time of our lives. Mel worked in the construction business for many years and had many talents from plumbing to building. No Job to big no job to small Mel and Keith could do them all. There wasn't much Mel couldn't do, he considered himself a jack of all trades.

Viewing is available Wednesday April 20, 10:00 am until 5:00 pm and Thursday 9:00 am until 12:00 noon at Hawthorne Funeral Home.

Graveside service will be at Fir Conway Cemetery at 1pm on Thursday April 21st. With a reception to follow at David and Marcella's home 19931 County Line Road, we invite all of you join to us to celebrate Mel's life.

He was preceded in death by his parents; Melvin and Lucille Sheridan, his Sisters, Diane Ward, Nardine Bennehoff and Marilyn Doctor.

Mel is survived by his loving wife and best friend, Ruby. His Son, David and Marcella Sheridan; his daughters, Carol and Andy Huttenstine; Beverly and Paul Stene; Phyllis Prosser and fiancé John; Charolette and Steve Martin. He is survived by his sisters Maxine Dix and Georgetta (Aldie) Axelson. His brother Phillip (Denise) Sheridan. His Grandchildren: Wendy Stene, Glenda (Tony) Pratt, Jason Sheridan, Donna (Gene) McMillan, Nathan (Connie) Sheridan, Wesley Stene, Justin (Krista) Sheridan, Jesse Norris, Charlene Norris and Sophia (Stacy) Woodland. And 13 precious great grandchildren plus one on the way.

In Lieu of flowers we ask that you donate to your favorite charity.

My Uncle Mel....a very wise man. When he spoke people listened. I know I did. He was a Father figure to many. Like King David in the Bible, He was a man after Gods heart. A true man of God. I will miss his hugs, and miss him telling me I love you. I will always keep fond memories of him close to my heart. He is loved by all, and will be deeply missed. I love you Uncle Mel!!

My love and prayers are with Ruby and each one of the family members. The Sheridan family is very special to me as well as many others in Skagit Valley, he will be greatly missed by all who knew him. May God Bless each and everyone with happy memories of Mel.

Cowboy up! My fond memories of Mel will never leave, his smile or a hug would cheer anyone up.
We shall meet, but we shall miss him,
There will be the vacant chair,
But though we no more possess him,
Still our hearts his memory bear.
But a while ago we gathered,
Friendship beaming in each eye,
Now the golden cord is severed,
He has passed to realms on high.

My Uncle Mel... One of the best always a smile, hug and I love you..His love honesty and nonjudgemental ways I will always treasure..He was one of three very important adult males in my life/childhood..Alway there when I needed him..Sitting at the right hand of our lord and savior and justly so...
