Owens and Brumley Funeral Home - Wichita Falls Obituary

Melvin Francis Spain went home to be with his Heavenly Father on March 15, 2025 in Wichita Falls, Texas. He was a devoted husband, loving father, a hip grandfather, and a friend to many.

Mel was preceded in death by his wife Beverly Sue Spain. He is survived by his son Brandon Spain Sr. and wife Courtney Spain of Wichita Falls. Daughter Breanna Spain of Wichita Falls as well as many grandchildren: Xander, Solara, Silas Hernandez, Brandon Jr, Hayden, Dennis, Lindy, Aiden, Hannah, and Basilia all of Wichita Falls.

Mel was born to Mary Francis White and Vernon Spain in Pryor, Oklahoma. He graduated from Oklahoma State University with a degree in Business Management. He then served first in the U.S. Army where he did two tours in Vietnam. After coming home for a short time, he then decided to join the US Airforce to learn how to work on jets as an aircraft mechanic and went on to work many years for Lear Seigler/Lockheed Martin. Melvin received many awards including the Vietnam Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Galantry Cross, Army Commendation Medal, and even the Purple Heart. Mel and his wife Beverly were also known as Pepper and Tutti Frutti the clowns, and served the community for many years entertaining parties and children. In his free time, Melvin (Peepaw) enjoyed eating out with his family and taking the small grandkids to many fun places.

Melvin, along with his wife Beverly, will be laid to rest on March 24, 2025 at 11 a.m. at Fort Sill National Cemetery in Elgin Oklahoma

Not sure what to say?

In loving memory of a wonderful person. We will love you and miss you always.

My sincere condolences to the Spain family praying for peace comfort and strength for you.

I knew Mr. Spain as one of his caregivers. He was such a sweet, kind man. He loved his puzzle books and his toboggan hat he wore every day that said "clowning for Jesus." I'm very grateful I had the opportunity to know and care for this wonderful gentleman.

Thank you for your military service in Vietnam and afterwards

Thank you sir for your faithfulness in serving our great nation! RIP, Brother...
