Being good friends with his daughter Connie, I spent a lot of time in their home. I know it was my safe haven. A family with two beautiful parents who always made me feel welcome and loved. Mel and his sons did several jobs at our house. He had a great attitude and sense of humor, he was a joy to be around. I visited him several times during his last days, and he was always nice to be around. Our sympathy goes to his family, we lost a good person who made the world a better place.

I remember Mel so well from my youth when My dad Bill Oates took me to the farm to small game hunt and Mel always had a smile and a story about hunting. And Cookie always had something good to eat after the hunt. That was way too many years ago but the memories of Mel hang tight with me. He will be missed and I am so sorry for your loss of a great man.
