HALL, Meredith Edgar "Ed" Jr., 71, of Chase City, died November 29, 2010. He retired in 1994 from Philip Morris as Production and Maintenance Superintendent. After retiring, he and his wife, Sylvia, moved back to Chase City where they operated the family farm. He attended Virginia Tech and his interests included golf, competitive water skiing, horsemanship, cattle farming and photography. Ed ran for the Virginia House of Delegates in 1995, and had a keen interest in politics. He was a member of Byrd International Rotary Club, Richmond Yacht Club, where he had served as Commodore, Richmond Austin-Healey Club, Colonial Water Ski Club, Black Gum Saddle Club, Chase City Ruritan Club, Board of Directors-Mecklenburg Scholarship Committee, and past board member of Mecklenburg Country Club. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Sylvia Bivens Hall; son, Meredith Edgar "Mark" Hall III and wife, Beth Evans Hall; daughter, Anne Hall Hale and husband, Brad, all of Petersburg; brother, Jimmy Hall and wife, Brenda, of Middletown; grandchildren, Blythe Hall, Devin Hall, Hannah Hale, and Meredith Edgar "Meade" Hall IV; several nieces and nephews and many friends. Friends may call at Wood Funeral Service, Chase City, 7 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday evening. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Thursday at First Baptist Church, with the Rev. Gene Burris and the Rev. Brandon Ives officiating. Interment will be private in the family cemetery. Contributions may be made to Mecklenburg County Cancer Assoc., P.O. Box 383, South Hill, Va. 23970, or Lake Country SPCA, P.O. Box 14, Clarksville, Va. 23927. Wood Funeral Service, Chase City, is serving the family. My love and sympathy to you all - Ed was a special friend and I enjoyed so working with him at the BL Plant. You could ask him the time and he would tell you how to build a clock!! Many wonderful memories!
