Peppler Funeral Home - Allentown Obituary

Merle J. Crain, 80, passed away Friday, November 4, 2016 at Jersey Shore Medical Center with his family by his side. Born in Niobrara and raised in South Sioux City, NE, he had lived in West Long Branch, NJ for 36 years prior to moving to Neptune 8 years ago.

He was a graduate of the University of South Dakota, worked for Bell Labs in the South Pacific, owned and operated CSDI, a software development company, before working for Mega Pumps in Eatontown. As a hobby, Merle had a deep passion for vintage tools and automobiles as well as computer technology. He was well loved by his family and will be deeply missed.

Predeceased by his brother Robert Crain, he is survived by his beloved wife of 52 years, Jane S. Crain (nee Seitz), three children: Jeffrey T. Crain of Neptune, Gretchen S. Anthony and her husband David of Jupiter, FL and Sarah Anne Carey and her husband Charles Daniel Sr. of Allentown, NJ and three grandchildren: Charles Daniel Jr., Julia Rose and Ava Rae. He is also survived by his sister Mary Hornby of Covington, LA.

Funeral Services will be held at 5 pm Tuesday, November 8 at the Peppler Funeral Home, 114 S. Main St, Allentown, NJ. Friends may call Tuesday afternoon from 3 pm until time of service at the funeral home. Inurnment will be private and at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in honor of Merle to the Youth Center at the Allentown Presbyterian Church, 20 High St, Allentown, NJ 08501.
