The Legacy of Merle Lynch began on February 7, 1914, in St. Augustine, Florida. She was the youngest daughter born to the parents of Catherine Styner-Mabry and Dunham C. Mabry. She accepted Jesus Christ at an early age and labored in His vineyard until she was called home to be with her heavenly Father Thursday, April 12, 2012. At age 21 she married the love of her life in New York City, Leonard Lynch, and in 1941, they moved to Cleveland. She affectionately called her husband, "Shug" and to this union eight children were born. On September 2, 1951, Shug died suddenly and that left her with the full challenge of raising their children. She cared for her mother who lived with her until her untimely death. She had a nurturing spirit and an undying love for her family. As recent as last month this amazing woman still offered to take care of you if you were sick. She managed well bringing up her kids and the many others that also called her "Mama or Nana." While raising her children, she was a den mother for Cub Scouts, organized street parties and volunteered some of her time to political activities. Her creativity, sewing, upholstering furniture, gardening, cooking (even though she seldom thought her dish came out right) were just a few skills she possessed but moreover, a woman who was resourceful, always making something out of nothing. Because of her style and grace exhibited there is no doubt that she was admired by all who came in contact with her. She addressed all of her children as "my darling." A devoted mother leaves to cherish her beloved children, Shirley Vicky Brown, Catherine (Gerald) McCully, Merlyn (Walter) Wenson, Orrell Lloyd, who preceded her in death (Nancy), Melvin, Leonard, Donald, Leroy, Hymetta Dickerson and Clarence Jones, her grand, great grand and great great grandchildren. She also leaves to cherish a dear nephew, Hugh D. (Marian) Booker of W. Palm Beach, Florida, a brother-in-law, Henry Alford of Bronx, NY, niece, Jackie Dixon, New Rochelle, NY, nephew, Norton Miles of NY, NY, cousins, Hazel Lillenthal and Rosemary Alexander both of Jacksonville, Florida, Jean Brooks Jacobs, Del Ray, Florida, Ronald Brooks, Highland Beach, Florida, Gloriamelanae Dailey and Loretta Wright both of Daytona Beach, Florida, Lottie Ann Moss and Barbara Vickers both of St. Augustine, Florida, Charlotte Glover, Olathe, Kansas, William Wilson, Jr., Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, and a host of extended family and friends.
