Cookie was my basketball coach from 4-7th grade (same team with his son Scott)and I helped him coach a year when I was in college. He also coached my baseball team. I will never meet a nicer and more giving person in my entire life. He took our teams on camping trips, basketball tournaments, and overnight trips to his school. My childhood is filled with great memories of Cookie. I just saw a show on PBS about Clintonville and Cookie was on the show. That made me curious to see how he was...

Merrill was the principal of my school, Northridge Elementary, when I was in 6th grade. I was just thinking about him, and the lessons I learned from him, today... and I decided to google him and discovered he just passed away. The impact we leave on people around us is much longer lasting than we imagine. Especially if we are folks with a strong value system, as Merrill was. My condolences to his family and close friends. Cookie was my son's CBA basketball coach. In truth he taught all the kids much more than the skills of the sport.
I always enjoyed talking to Cookie and listening to his philosophy of life as we know it.
