Baca's Funeral Chapels - Las Cruces Obituary

Our beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and dear friend, MICAELA CALZADA CHAVEZ, 90, of Doña Ana entered eternal life on Thursday, January 25, 2024, at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was born September 29, 1933, in Durango, Mexico to Frances Barela and Pedro Calzada. Micaela was a business owner and a devout member of Our Lady of Purification Catholic Church.


Micaela was a loving, kind, person, with a helping hand. She will be missed dearly. 


Those left to mourn her passing include two sons, Arturo Chavez of Doña Ana, and Mike Chavez (Veronica) of Las Cruces; two brothers, Camilio Calzada and Edward Calzada (Isabel); sister, Pat Torres all of Doña Ana; three grandchildren, Michael Chavez (Daisy Mora), Sarah Alvarado (Matthew) and Myra Kelly; five great-grandchildren, David Torres, Alexa Chavez, Dealin, Kyrene Reign, and Millyanah Kelley, as well as numerous niece and nephews. Micaela was preceded in death by her parents; her loving husband, Rigoberto “Chato” Chavez on December 11, 2017; son, Alex Chavez and a sister, Josie Lujan. 


At her request cremation has taken place and the Prayer Vigil will begin at 10:30 AM Thursday, February 22, 2024, at Our Lady of Purification Catholic Church, 5525 Cristo Rey in Doña Ana with the Memorial Mass to be celebrated thereafter with the Reverend Martin Cordero, Celebrant. Inurnment of cremains will follow at the Doña Ana Cemetery.
