Not sure what to say?

Yesterday I had the privilege of speaking at Michael's memorial service and meeting his wonderful family. I thought I would post what I said to honor him here.

"When David Feldt asked me to speak today I was honored. And, it being the week of 'Angels in America', I looked for inspiration to the words of angels in the past. In Revelation, Saint John writes:
'I HEARD a voice from heaven, saying unto me, Write, From henceforth blessed are the dead who die in the Lord: even...

Although I had lost touch with Michael since our early twenties, I always treasure the years we spent as confidantes and friends during high school and our early college years. I'll never forget attending our Junior prom together, he with his jaw wired shut from a dislocated jaw injury, and us getting milkshakes from McDonalds that night since he couldn't eat anything that didn't go through a straw. I still wear the gold bracelet he gave me in senior year and I will forever remember him as a...

To The Abdenour Family,
Though I did not know Michael personally, through my friendship with Tom I felt as if I did. From all that I read it is truely a huge loss. My prayers go out to you all.

Sincerely,

Dear Abdenour Family,

I am a good friend with Tom. I never met Michael but thru Tom I felt he was a friend also. All of you are in my prayers and if you need anything please call me at 423-741-2064.

Dear David, Mrs. Abdenour and Family,
I would like to express my deepest sympathy to all of you at this most difficult time. I knew Mike during college and also was a housemate of his right after our graduation from Georgetown. I always have held very fond memories of Mike over the years. He was a gentle and loving friend with a wonderful heart. I am very saddened to hear of his passing and will keep Mike and all of you in my thoughts and prayers.

To David and the Abdenour Family:
On a return visit to Georgetown for Homecoming or whatnot, Mike and I sat down to chat. He asked about law school and whether I had made friends there. When I answered in the affirmative, he leaned closer and said quietly but confidently "Yeah, but not like here, I bet; we've been through too much together. This is where you made your real friends." I'll never forget that, not so much because he was right, but because it exemplified the intimacy that...

Dear David, Mrs. Abdenour and family,
I am very sorry for your loss. I have fond memories of Mike (Ab) from grade school and high school. He was a kind and gentle person who left an impression on everyone he met. My thoughts are with you.

To the entire Abdenour family, our prayers are with each of you. God Bless, Pat & Michelle Greathouse and family.

To David and the Abdenour family:I was privileged to spend time with Michael in the company of David, Robin, and other friends.
Conversation with Michael was cultured, funny, serious, rich, and soulful. He contributed such warmth and grace. I treasure those times.
My deepest sympathy.
