Michael Gary Allen

Fryeburg, ME - Michael Gary Allen, 72, of Fryeburg, Maine died in Portland, ME on December 5, 2023.

Mike was born in Hanover, NH on May 24, 1951 to Warren T. Allen and Myrtle M. Horne.

Michael attended Concord High School graduating in 1969. Before pursuing a Bachelors of Science degree at Franklin Pierce College (BS 1981) Mike joined the Air Force, completing his service in 1974. He worked and retired from the State of New Hampshire DOT and UPS/Manchester Airport.

Mike married Gail A. Philbrick, also from Concord, in 1975. Mike and Gail spent 31 years enjoying each other and doing all the things they shared the love of. Mike and Gail have one daughter April Allen Clough. Ernie A. Clough, April's husband, was one of Mike's best friends. April was Mike and Gail's pride and joy and they both relished life with her and her daughter, their only grandchild Raelyn M. Allen. Raelyn and "Papa" had an especially fun and loving relationship!

More than 7 years after Gail's death Mike was fortunate to have Mary Bartlett Remington, who had been in his class at Concord HS, come back into his life. Mary and Mike had a very comfortable, loving, and adventurous partnership filled with drives throughout Maine, New Hampshire, and Vermont and many travels in their RV. Mike particularly enjoyed family outings with Mary's son Philip and the Bartlett clan most especially Mary's mother Lillian.

Mike is also survived by his sister Patty Wilson who resides with her husband Bill in West Palm Beach, Florida.

Mike was lifelong friends with Tom Jelley and his wife Bonnie Philbrick of Palm Coast, Florida. Tom and Mike had a enduring and nearly inseparable friendship.

Mike enjoyed camping in the RV, driving his yellow mini cooper wherever it took him, frequently traveling with Mary, and having the actual experience of driving an Indy Car at NH Speedway.

Mike will always be remembered for his unique sense of humor, his wonderful personality, and his adventurous spirit. He had a distinctive way of dealing with day to day life. Thinking of Mike Allen will always bring a smile to the minds of many people, including a plethora of cousins, nieces, and nephews who relished having him in their lives.

Visiting hours will be held Thursday December 14th from 10:30 to12:30 at Waters Funeral Home, 50 South Main St. Concord.
