Tempe Mortuary - Tempe Obituary

Michael Ray Andazola, age 64, loving husband, brother, son and above all father, was taken by our Lord to that special place he reserved for him in heaven on March 24, 2022. Born and raised in Silver City, New Mexico, Mike was a graduate of Silver City High School and went on to earn a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering at New Mexico State University in 1983.  He began his career in Dallas, Texas and ended in Phoenix, Arizona where he earned his Professional Engineering Registration for the State of Arizona.  Mike spent his career working for various engineering consulting firms and the Arizona Department of Transportation. He was well known for his infectious laugh and a great sense of humor. It was this quality that made him so special within our family and attracted so many friends throughout his life.

Beyond his professional ambitions, Mike’s greatest passion was his family. Mike leaves behind his beloved wife of almost 24 years, Bernice Montano, and their two sons, Josh and Alex.  He cherished his family with every fiber of his being and put their needs above his own.  His ambitions for Josh and Alex have already been partially realized by the good young men they have become.

Mike was an avid fan of the Cardinals, Suns, and Diamondbacks. He loved camping, golfing, and the great outdoors.  Mike was preceded in death by his beloved mother, Petra Andazola and his dear Aunt Teresa Castrillo.   In addition to Bernice, Josh, and Alex, Mike is survived by his father, Manuel, his brothers Ron (Martha), James (Theresa), and sisters Anna Harris (Mark), Judy Baca (Jim), and Camille Anaya (Greg), and Sister-in-law Vita Montano.  He had many nieces, nephews, and godchildren.  A rosary will be held on Friday, April 22, 2022 at 10:00 am followed by a mass at 11:00 am at Church of the Holy Spirit, 1800 E Libra Dr, Tempe, Arizona 85283. The family requests that any friends or family wishing to join but experiencing any COVID symptoms attend in spirit.

Not sure what to say?

I met Michael at ADOT a long time ago; he was a contractor and we worked together on a few roadway projects. Then. he became an ADOT engineer. He had a soft demeanor and always positive, his family and work was the main topic of conversation. I had always a good time talking to him. I will miss him.

Dear Andazola Family,

Mike and I recently met as we worked together between ADOT and the City of Tucson agencies. Mike immediately treated me as though we had known each other for years. He was very kind, patient, and happy. Often in between talking shop, we would chat about what we had planned for our retirement years - we were even counting the days. Although I never met Bernice, he talked very fondly of his wife and his boys - he was looking forward to spending more time...

From Mike

I got to know Mike while working at ADOT. He always had words of wisdom and shared his life experiences when giving advice to people. He was genuine in his advice and truly wanted other people to succeed. The attached is a picture of the framed words that Mike's had on his office wall. We had deep discussions about it. Mike chose to live a life that mattered. Rest In Peace Mike, I will miss our conversations and genuine kindness.

Mike was always so pleasant and kind while we worked together as coworkers and industry professionals. I cherish my fond memories of his infectious laugh and cooperative attitude.
Rest In Peace, Mike.

While working on various engineering projects, I came to know Mike not only as a client but also as a dear friend. Our friendship grew as we worked together for the past several years. Family was always a focal point of many discussions. Loved to talk about the Cardinals and Suns. He will be greatly missed. Rest in Peace, Mike.

May God bless you and your family in this time of sorrow.

James and Andazola Family,
My deepest condolences to all the Andazola Family. As expressed by so many who knew Mike, he was a kind soul who was always smiling and uplifting to those around him. He loved the Lord. As the gates opened may he rejoice and rest in the heavenly kingdom that our Lord Jesus Christ has prepared. My continued prayers for family and friends.❤
