Michael James Balfour, 56, of Cedar Road, Attleboro Falls, a security officer and loving husband, father and brother, died unexpectedly on Monday, September 26, 2005 at Charlton Memorial Hospital in Fall River. He was the beloved husband of thirty-two years of Suzanne (Vassar) Balfour.
Born in Attleboro on December 23, 1948, Mr. Balfour was a son of the late William U. and Agnes V. (Gallagher) Balfour.
Mr. Balfour was educated in the Mansfield School System. During the Vietnam War, Mr. Balfour served in the United States Army.
He was currently employed by Vance Security as a security officer at the Brayton Point Power Station in Somerset for the past three years. Earlier Mr. Balfour was employed at Texas Instruments in Attleboro.
A resident of Attleboro Falls the past twenty-four years, Mr. Balfour enjoyed time spent at home with his family, camping and fishing.
In addition to his beloved wife, Suzanne, Mr. Balfour is survived by a daughter: Heather Lynn Balfour at home; a sister: Susan E. Poblenz of Woonsocket, RI; two aunts: Loretta Gallagher and Patricia Knight, both of Attleboro; and many nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late William W. Balfour.
A funeral service will be conducted on Thursday, September 29, 2005 at 10 AM in the Duffy-Poule Funeral Home, 20 Peck Street, Attleboro by the Rev. Msgr. Daniel F. Hoye, pastor of St. John the Evangelist Church in Attleboro. Military honors from the U.S. Army will follow recognizing Mr. Balfour’s honorable service during the Vietnam War. Burial will be private.
Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 28th from 5 PM – 8 PM in the Duffy-Poule Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in his memory may be made to: The American Heart Association, 20 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701.

Mrs. Balfour, It is with deep regret that I am unable to attend your husband's proceedings. I would like to take this time to tell you what a nice man your husband was. It always brought me joy to watch his face light up when he spoke about his wife and daughter. His whole face would light up and he would blush like a young school boy.
