Not sure what to say?

Michael was the very best in education and personal philosophy. Those who were taught by him learned a lot to set them on lifes path. He should have been Headmaster of Mt Albert Grammar School and his friend Dr Turoa Royal advisor to education thought he was one of the best in New Zealand. He is missed by his past students.

Oh you were wonderful, Mike. I met you in the seventies when you brought Pauline and the kids for your year's exchange at the school I taught in and then in the eighties when I landed on you for a couple of weeks on a world trip. I loved NZ! In later years I followed your funeral work (I've done a bit myself). I hope your send off was as good as the ones you delivered.

I'm pleased to have had the chance of being a pupil of yours. Your energy, enthusiasm and firm but fair approach to teaching, made school, especially Social studies that much more enjoyable for me. I have always and will always admire you not only as an amazing teacher, but a shining example of the manner of person we should all aspire to be. Thank you, RIP sir.Ben.

Fond memories of those lively debates at the Auckland Geography Teachers' Association meetings. Mike's input was always very professional and respected for it's wisdom, humour and academic integrity.
Mike was also a great help to me in readjusting to the New Zealand teaching scene after an extended period overseas.
A mentor to many young teachers and an inspiration to generations of students.

Dear Pauline and family,

It was with great sadness we heard of Mike's passing. He truly touched many many hearts

We were lucky to have him as a teacher, a mentor and a friend. Sharing in the most special times of our lives as our celebrant at our wedding and at the naming ceremony of our first daughter, Isabel.

'Mr B' you will live on forever in the hearts of all that you touched.

Love Louise and Daniel O'Brien

It was with a huge sadness that we learned just today of Mike's passing. Our greatest sympathy goes to Pauline and family.
Mike was one of life's wonderful people who touched the lives of everyone he ever had anything to do with...and that was a lot of people.
He was our daughter's teacher, the celebrant at her wedding and also at her granddad's funeral.
He made the world a better place.
Our family sends you all our love at this time.
