Michael Angelo Broadnax (Mike), the son of the late Velma and Charles Johnson, was born on August 11, 1952 in Newark, New Jersey. Michael was raised by his paternal grandparents (Louis and Levator Ada Broadnax) in Mobile, Alabama due to his mother's death at an early age. His three devoted aunts and an uncle (Annice, Bennie, Johnnie Mae, and Louis "TD" Broadnax), all deceased, were also instrumental in raising Michael and his siblings.
The Broadnax family later relocated to Littleton Avenue, in Newark, NJ. The family became long time members of Metropolitan Baptist Church on 32 Prince Street. Michael was the great nephew of the late Reverend Charlie Broadnax. Michael attended the John F. Kennedy School of Special Education. After graduating, he went onto attend The Arc of Union County as a young adult.
Michael was a connoisseur of music from a young child. His aunts made sure that, on a daily basis, he was surrounded by jukeboxes and pin ball machines. Michael's love of music was supported by many family members and he had an enviable collection of records that he cherished. On any given day, Michael's daily routine was to go to school and on the way home he would hop off the school bus headed straight to his records and record players. Michael was extremely happy as long as those machines were working, but if broken or not operating correctly then you knew you were in for a fight (Look OUT).
Despite Michael's illnesses over the years, he was always in a state of sheer peace. He was filled with laughter and greeted you with a smile. And he was always eager to know if you brought him some records.
He leaves to mourn four older siblings Levata L. Jordan, Mildred A. Kimbrough, Thomas Broadnax (Jeanette) and Brenda S. Brown (King); three first cousins (Arnold Broadnax, Linda Carter and Maurice Broadnax (Robin); and a host of numerous great nieces, nephews and friends.
Our gift, Michael, is now with the Lord.
Visitation Friday September 4, 2015 10am to noon funeral hour at the Moffettville Baptist Church, 7770 Wilson Road, Wilmer, AL 36587.

I remember the many times I would sit with Michael at the Family Restaurant on South Orange Avenue just to say hello. He was always well groomed and had an infectious smile. My condolences to the Broadnax Family for the Care you showed Michael over the years!! I am in North Carolina on vacation and just scrolled across the obituary so I will be unable to attend the services but extend my best to each of you!!
