Michael David Carpenter, Sr.


 


Michael David Carpenter, Sr., 76, of Wilmington, NC, passed away Saturday, June 24, 2017. He was born February 26, 1941 in Washington, DC, a son of the late Russell and Bernadette Carpenter. His sister, Patricia Kenney, preceded him in death.


 


He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Christine, of Wilmington; four children, son, Michael Carpenter, Jr.  and his wife, Christine, daughter, Catherine Carpenter-Zink and her husband, Ronald, all of Wilmington,  daughter, Janet Harding and husband, Timothy, of Bowie, MD, and son, Russell Carpenter and his wife,  Diana, of Crofton, MD; brother, William Carpenter of Silver Springs, MD; sister, Ellen Cunningham of Odenton, MD; brother-in-law, Michael Kenney of Alexandria, VA; seven grandchildren, Sara, Samuel, Brooks, Cora Rose, Finnegan, Liam, and Patrick; and a host of nieces and nephews.


 


Before retiring to Wilmington, he retired from Blue Cross and Blue Shield of the National Capitol Area. He was a Grand Knight of Sacred Heart Council #2577 and an Honoree Life Time Member.


 


Mass will be celebrated at 12 Noon Wednesday, July 5, 2017, at St. Therese Catholic Church, 209 S. Lumina Ave., Wrightsville Beach. Interment will follow at St. Mark Catholic Church Columbarium.


 


In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Michael’s name to Lower Cape Fear Hospice, 1414 Physicians Dr., Wilmington, NC 28401.
