Michael Chaffier, CPA, 93 of Roseto, fondly known as “Mickey”, passed away peacefully, on Tuesday, May 18, 2021, surrounded by love, at his home that he shared with his daughter, Josette.
Born on December 18, 1927, he was the only child of the late Anthony and Jennie (Faraldo) Chaffier. He was married to the late Josephine Chaffier (Ronco) for 55 years until her death on September 18, 2009.
A 1945 graduate of Bangor High School, he served in the US Navy from 1945-1947. Stationed in Adak, Alaska, he was engaged as a radio operator intercepting enemy radio traffic.
After the service, he continued his education at Moravian Preparatory School and East Stroudsburg State Teachers College. In 1952, he received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Accounting from The Pennsylvania State University. He was the first of two students to participate in Penn State’s first accounting internship program working as an auditor for Tiffany’s in New York. After graduation, he accepted a position with the offices of Price Waterhouse in New York and Pittsburgh. Subsequently, he became an accountant in Stroudsburg for the Worthington Mower Company and in 1960-1961 was an assistant controller for Blue Ridge Textile Company in Bangor. He also served as treasurer for the International Boiler Works in East Stroudsburg. In 1965, Michael started his own accounting practice and ran a successful business for 56 years.
Michael was an avid Penn State football fan and a long time season ticket holder. Along with his family, he enjoyed traveling in their motor home to Penn State football games to cheer on their Nittany Lions. In the off season, he would travel up north to Maine to enjoy lobstah. He earned his private pilot’s license and also held a ham radio license. He was a pioneer member of the Penn State Alumni Association, the Pennsylvania Institute of Certified Public Accountants, and lifelong member of the Elks.
He is survived by four children, Anthony and wife Selena, Lucienne Martino and husband Dan, Josette Chaffier, and Michael Robert, three grandchildren Jessica, Justin and Daniel, two great grandchildren Asia and Sean, beloved cousins and longtime clients who became friends.
There will be a viewing, Sunday, May 23, 2021, beginning at 2 PM until 6 PM at the Ruggiero Funeral Home, LLC, 126 E. Pennsylvania Avenue, Pen Argyl.
