Not sure what to say?

Mike was our next door neighbor on Lawrence Avenue for 8 years. He was a great neighbor and we enjoyed many hours of stimulating conversations and we enjoyed laughing together. My condolences at his passing.

My memories of Uncle Mike are simple. Sitting outside on our patio in Seal Beach and listening to him tell stories of his teaching experiences and his life experiences. I remember stories of the time he bought shares of a little upstart company called Intel or the time he built a motor from scratch in high school. In fact, my father claims much of the foul language he acquired was from his older brother cursing in the garage. I'm proud to be the third generation of Dr. Cherniss' in academia....

When someone you love becomes a memory, the memory becomes a treasure...Author Unknown

Hoping that each day will take away a bit of grief and open up a world of treasures.

My condolences to your family. May you find peace and comfort knowing that your loved one is in the memory of our Heavenly Father. Our Heavenly Father is also watching over us and he sees the pain and sorrow that we feel in our hearts. He is there to give us comfort and peace. So pray to him daily and he will sustain you. Hebrews 6:10.

You are truly missed, Mike. Don and I shared some wonderful times with you and Jane, and I'll never make a Fudge Sundae Pie again without thinking of you. May you be at peace and at rest.

I took freshman honors English from Professor Cherniss just about a thousand years ago, in the fall of 1966. What a great instructor! What he did for me -- he made me learn to write. I never worked so hard in my life, and I was so angry with my high school for not giving me what Dr. Cherniss did that I resolved to teach writing to secondary students -- that's exactly what my career was, teaching English and especially writing. Thanks to all of you for sharing him with his students.
